If you are having difficulty paying only the minimum payments on their credit cards, you’re not alone. A large percentage of people passing in the street every day are suffering under the weight of the same strain. They are also concerned about upcoming (or past) due dates and pay credit card debt has increased.

You do not continue to lose sleep worrying about your debts, but action is needed today. Gradually, one step at a time, you can change your credit situation a nightmare being a bad dream of the past.

Examine your spending

As difficult as it may be to face, until your credit card debt is paid to a manageable level, you begin to live frugally. Start by tracking expenses, specifying everything from their morning coffee at the monthly electricity bill. Then go through this list, line by line, and determine what expenses can be eliminated and at least can be reduced.

Look for new funds

Consider taking a second job, tutoring or weekend child care. Look around your house for clothes, furniture or other items they can sell, either in ads or online sites like Ebay. Return unnecessary recent card purchases on credit.

Stop using your cards

It is almost impossible to significantly reduce your debt if you continue to add each month. At least, all the cards in stores and department and keep your wallet in a safe place (or cut entirely.) Before downloading anything for a card now, he wondered if he really is necessary and if there is a way to make that purchase or to delay until you have sufficient funds to cover the cost.

Pay your cards the highest interest rates first

After stripping all possible costs, he sold what he could, and sought new sources of income, determine how much you have left at the end of the month on all their minimum payments. Then, use any excess cash card with the highest interest rates, and continue to do so until the card is paid. Repeat the process with the second card and so on. This pay your debts faster.

Call and ask

If you send a payment late, call and leave your credit card company know. Customers who communicate honestly receive better treatment. It never hurts to call and ask if your interest rate can be reduced or even half a percentage point can make a big difference to someone who lives a month to month.

Your credit card company may also have some type of hardship program in place for customers who are temporarily unemployed or who are dealing with a serious illness. If you think you have a case difficulty, again, call and talk to someone. You may qualify for a lower interest rate or a few months of grace.
